Restaurant Management Students Present Thanksgiving
December 04, 2006
Restaurant Management students prepared and served Thanksgiving Dinner to AVC instructors November 21. This is the tenth year students have cooked and served dinner for the instructors and students alike. Students from the program took orders from fellow students, and prepared the meals for take out. Students also set up a dining area and prepared to serve the dinner as a full service menu, taking orders from the instructors.
The most important purpose of the meal is to give the students experience in the kitchen and dining area as they might receive in a typical restaurant. Students have the opportunity to learn about timing, organization, and teamwork. Students also learn about front of the house procedures, such as speaking to the customers, serving food and drink and coordinating with the cooks in the kitchen. Students were also required to cost out the menu in order to know what to charge for the meal. Students and AVC instructors alike enjoyed their meal. Most felt so full they were ready for an afternoon nap!
