Repairing cars, trucks and small engines

by Bob Nolan

October 23, 2006

Have you needed your vehicle repaired lately? Have you called your dealership and had to wait 3 to 5 days for an appointment? Even wondered why?

Skilled auto mechanics are in short supply nation wide. Industry experts predict the repair workforce needs to grow by 35,000 per year for the next decade. Currently the post high school programs are graduating only 10,000 per year at most according to the Department of Education. The shortage is greatest for high end diagnostic experts. These experts can have an income as high as $100,000.00 per year. DOES THIS INTEREST YOU!!!!

The AVC Auto Technology program is designed to introduce basic repair procedures on todays vehicles. If you like cars and trucks, like to work with your hands and want a new challenge everyday, this maybe the class for you. You can chose from either a one or two year program that will give you a start in this career choice or learn to repair your own vehicle. In the first year you will learn how a car works, basic maintenance, tire changing and balancing, brakes, exhaust, cooling systems, engines, powertrain and electrical. In the second year, the first year is reinforced while introducing alignment, air conditioning, electronics, computer systems and fuel injection.

A combination of classroom instruction and hands on training is used. Does your car need work? You will be able to repair your vehicle if it does. The students are encouraged to bring in their vehicles for repair as they are learning that area of study. Students have in the past rebuilt their own engines, installed radios, replaced suspension components, and just general maintenance items.

If the world of automotive repair interests you for a career, the two year course will give you a good head start to further your studies at a tech school or college. The one year course will allow you to do minor repairs yourself on your own car for many years to come. Come check us out.....
