AVC Alum Joins Navy

Stockton High School graduate, and former Law Enforcement student at the Jo Daviess Carroll AVC enlists in U.S. Navy!
Bert Cook, a 2007 graduate of Stockton High School enlisted into the Navy on September 25th, 2008 and is scheduled to leave for basic training on November 17th, 2008. Cook chose the MMS (Machinist Mate, Submarines) rating which will afford him the opportunity for several advanced technical schools which will prepare him for duty on the Navy's nuclear, ballistic missile submarines.
Cook will first attend Navy basic training for 8-9 weeks at the Great Lakes Naval Education and Training Center in Illinois. Basic training will be followed by Basic Enlisted Submarine School in Groton, CT for 4 weeks, and then MMS "A" School, also in Groton , for an additional 9 weeks.
Those will not be the only training opportunities for Cook in the Navy. Advanced (or "C") Schools will be available for Cook such as Auxiliary Specialist school which is an additional 7 weeks, and, Weapons Specialist School, which is an extensive 17 week course in Groton, CT.
Cook received a $7000 enlistment bonus. Since he volunteered for submarine duty, he will receive sub pay, and sea pay over and above his basic pay.
