The graphics students have been very busy participating in local community events. These are a wonderful opportunity for the students to show off their talents, impress their families, and gain exhibit experience, a skill that will help with college applications and resume building.
On March 10th, students participated in an annual Art Rally. This event consisted of a one night exhibit of high school age artwork and hands-on workshops for the students. Five schools participated and over 100 pieces of artwork were shown at Pearl City High School. The AVC sent 22 pieces of their art work and 16 prizes were given out in an award ceremony. Graphics students from the Jo Daviess Carroll Area Vocational Center took home five of the awards, including Best-in-Show by Kelsey Benton. Blake Scharpf took first place in Drawing. Bridget Knasiak and Sara Chwistek took first and second place in Miscellaneous. Laura Sack took second place in Sculpture. This was the first time the AVC has participated in this event and the graphics students should be very proud. (Please scroll through the winning images)

The graphics students sent 22 different works of art to this show. Out of over 100 pieces of high school artwork from six different schools five awards were given out. Thane Montgomery won Honorable Mention. This was also the first time the AVC has participated in this event. Aspiring Artists runs through May 9th, 2009.
On March 26th, Highland Community College held a gallery opening for their Student Juried Art Exhibit. This was one of the biggest shows they have had in years, with 7 schools participating. The graphics students sent18 pieces to this show. 11 awards were given out and Blake Scharpf took third place with his charcoal drawing of a train. This show is running through April 24th, 2009.
AVC Students have won awards in every show they have participated in, which is no small task. These successes are just a precursor to the successes they will continue to have with the foundation they are building at the Jo Daviess Carroll Area Vocational Center.
