Health Occupations I

The Health Occupations I course gives the students the opportunity to complete their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification. It provides study in basic anatomy and physiology; career exploration including shadowing experiences; introduction to medical terminology; introduction to medical secretarial techniques; CPR, First Aid and AED training; job seeking and workplace skills; computer applications in Health Care, and the knowledge and skills of basic patient care. Students will complete skills training in the school lab and at least 40 hours of clinical experience at the local nursing home. Students are active in HOSA(Health Occupations Students of America) and can participate in Local, State and National Events.

Course Content:
First Semester : 

Orientation to Health Occupations, Career Exploration, Introduction to Health Care Systems, Basic Anatomy and Physiology, Safety, The Working Environment, The Patient Unit,    Introduction to the Patient, Personal Care of the Patient, Body Mechanics,  FIRST AID/CPR/AED, Job Shadowing, Clinical @ Nursing Home, HOSA.

Second Semester: 

Medical Terminology, Nutrition, Fluid Balance, Vital Signs, Fundamentals of Rehabilitation, The Isolation Patient, Care of the Terminal Patient, Supportive Care, Patient Care Planning, Alzheimers Disease, Care of Mothers and Newborns, Job Seeking Skills, Secretarial Techniques for the Medical Office,Clinical @ Nursing Home, HOSA.
